Painting on black paper I prefer using color pencils on black paper. This technique is of course related to my kind of painting. At first it may seem curious, as normally we think of using light paper for colors. But also the famous Dutch painter Willem Kalf used black priming for hid wonderful still lives. You get by this amazing light effects. The dark ground can also make the motive change into something related to a kind of memory instead of a realistic portrayal. This is totally fitting to my intention to paint at home impressions I got during my voyages or dreamlike fantasies. As no white color pencil is strong enough to cover black paper, I use acrylic white instead.
