Illustrations related to J.R.R.Tolkien
In 1977 I read "The Hobbit" and was so fascinated by J.R.R. Tolkiens tale, that I
made a series of 12 etchings in fine aquatinta. When I did this work, I still didn’t
know about Tolkien’s own illustrations. Seeing them  later I was amazed, how my
imagination of Esgaroth was fitting to the author’s drawing!
The Charles Allis Library in Milwaukee owns one  set of this rare edition (20) and
exhibited it several times, at last in January 2002.

The size of all etchings is 3.8x5.7 and printed on handmade paper. The paper size
of the Hobbit edition is 21x14.7, that of the other etchings 15x10.5 .
While the illustrations to "The Hobbit" are only available as a complete series,
some of the illustrations to the "Lord of the Rings", I made in the following years,
can be bought as singular pieces.
